Sewing and a love of fabric has been with me from a very early age having been taught dressmaking at school, over the years I have made several wedding dresses, clothes for myself and outfits for friends. When my 3 boys were young I loved to make clothes for them but with an ever expanding home I began to turn my attentions to soft furnishings. The January sale at Laura Ashley in the 90’s (actually on January 1st ) always saw me returning with armfuls of fabrics for projects and I still have some of those fabrics today that never were made into anything…classed as vintage now !
As a hard working mother I never really had time to expand my love of sewing into anything more than a hobby but as my boys became more independent and gradually flew the nest I found more time to start making cushions and blinds for friends as well as selling at local craft fairs.
While on holiday in France in 2014 when the weather had not been particularly kind to us I began to think about how much I was missing my sewing machine. With the help of a bottle of fine French wine and helpful business advice from my partner the idea of “Les Petites Choses” was born and after returning home it was full steam ahead to promote the business and start sewing soft furnishings for real customers.
The long term plan is to possibly move to France one day and maybe run soft furnishing courses in the French countryside with accommodation and French gourmet food included …. a dream for the future.
